Repair West Side of MTCSSA Bridge
Federal Construction Group repaired the washed out transition area of the bridge crossing the I5 freeway to the MCTSSA area. The first step was to institute the traffic control plan to control the traffic and limit traffic to one controled lane. We had to secure the excavation area with vehicle plates and make the area safe for vehicle flow every evening. We then installed erosion control measures. Guard rails PCC curbs were removed and stored for reinstallation. Starting on the North side of the bridge the failed flat work was removed and the wash out exposed. the exposed washed out area was inspected in order to determine if the need for any additional repairs were required. The excavation was compacted and back filled using slurry in three lifts. Flatwork, curbs and gutters were formed and placed. Next the drainage system was installed and the guard rails reinstalled. We secured and inspected the north side of the transition area and upon acceptance reemployed traffic control to begin work on the south side. With the guard rails removed, the south slope could be excavated and recomputed. We demolished the existing PCC curb and drainage system and conducted compaction tests and form for the new curbs, gutter and drainage. We placed new flat work, curbs, gutters and drainage, reinstalled guard rails, sealed joints and milled the A/C and demobilized. The project was able to be completed with one move in and move off.
